Kat Macaulay's story

“My name is Kat Macaulay. I'm 32 and I have stage two Hodgkin lymphoma. I started chemotherapy, using a combination of drugs called ABVD on Friday 12 August.

“I found a lump in my neck in April but hadn't realised until I saw a photo that I'd had it for a good few months longer. I had felt quite tired and had experienced itchy skin but those were the only other symptoms that I'd experienced.

“My doctor sent me to the hospital and until I was diagnosed with lymphoma I felt it was all a fuss about nothing.

“I remember the day I was diagnosed very clearly. I really didn't expect it to be cancer. It's not that the C word is an unknown fear. My mum's had breast cancer three times. It's just the usual cliche... I genuinely didn't think it was going to happen to me. But it has and I'm tackling it head on.

“I am a Video Journalist and Production Trainer for the BBC and since I am a camera geek at heart a video blog seemed like the natural thing to do in response to my getting lymphoma. I've worked with other people to create them in the past and these courageous individuals are my inspiration. "I have filmed such momentous events as my first session of chemotherapy and hope to share them with more people also affected by this blood cancer during Lymphatic Cancer Awareness Week."
