Be inspired - volunteering

Ken

Prize-winning dahlia grower, Ken Stock is helping us to beat blood cancers by selling his dahlias!

The idea is to choose a name for the new seedling for someone you would like to remember and help raise money at the same time. You can donate whatever you like – every two pounds gives you a chance to have your chosen name picked at the end of the season, and then all the varieties will be registered at the RHS Gardens at Wisley.

Information regarding the winning names can be found on Ken’s website at www.kesdahlias.co.uk. You can name and donate a dahlia at www.justgiving.com/Ken-Stock14.

Hazel

Hazel, who is in remission, started the Milton Keynes Fundraising Group.

"I volunteer because others did it for me! I wanted to give something back because without research I believe I would not be here.

I started off helping other Branches and doing small fundraising events and now have my own group in Milton Keynes. I get lots of support from head office and from other Branches so don’t feel like I am doing this on my own."

Vivien

Vivien’s son Jack is in remission from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

“I started volunteering one day a week. I now come in a couple of times a week and support the community fundraising team. I work on everything from  inputting event entries to sourcing auction prizes and helping to market our Forget Me Not Walks. Helping in the office is my way of giving something back to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.”

Emma

Emma volunteered at the London Bikeathon in 2009.

“I first got involved with Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research when I was working at M&S and helped on the Botham Walk. I was so touched by the work of the charity and the people involved that I decided to help out at the Bikeathon.

It was a fantastic day and I was inspired by the people I met on the day and by their stories. This year, I’m determined to cycle the 52km route and raise lots of money for the charity.”
