Sir Ian Botham

Sir Ian Botham is known to millions around the world as one of the legends of English cricket – but since 1985 he has also become known for his charity walks.

Beefy’s legendary walks include two from John O'Groats to Land's End and one, the Hannibal Trek, over the Alps with elephants!  Entries for Beefy's next walk in April 2012 around the UK are open now.

Since stepping out 25 years ago, Sir Ian has raised over £12m for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and he is President of our charity. Sir Ian received a knighthood in 2007 in honour of both his cricketing achievements and the work he has done for us.

In 1985 only 20% of children survived the most common form of childhood leukaemia, now 90% survive this disease. But there are still children for whom the outlook is not so good and Sir Ian is determined to make sure every child survives leukaemia.

Sir Ian, who is President of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, says: “I never forget why I put myself through the pain and blisters. But I need people to sign up and join me on my walk and help ensure that every child diagnosed with one of these blood cancers survives. I won’t stop until we beat childhood leukaemia, but I can’t do it without you.”
