Wickes

In October 2006, DIY retailer Wickes chose Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research as their first charity partner.

Since then Wickes colleagues, customers and suppliers across the UK have enthusiastically taken on a whole range of fun and creative fundraising initiatives. The partnership has surpassed all expectations and at the end of 2009, Wickes announced they had raised a phenomenal £2million for our life-saving research.

Cathy Gilman, Chief Executive of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, says: "Wickes has shown an incredible commitment and dedication to fundraising for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research since the partnership began. To reach £2million is amazing and it will make a real difference to the lives of people touched by all blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma."

Everyone at Wickes has contributed to the success of the partnership. Wickes colleagues in over 200 stores across the country have organised store events including family fun days, fancy dress days, head shaves, walks across the country and BBQs. Individual colleagues have thrown themselves into sponsored skydives, bikeathons, marathons, triathlons and even shark dives!

Our team at Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research has worked closely with Wickes colleagues to ensure they receive the best support for their fundraising activities throughout the course of the partnership.

Highlights of the partnership have included the South West Divisional Softball Tournament which has brought together 66 stores as part of a region wide tournament for the past two years, raising over £30,000. Wickes colleagues have also committed to annual challenges set by Managing Director Jeremy Bird. In 2011 Jeremy, along with 18 Wickes colleagues and ex-England footballer Geoff Thomas, completed the epic Everest Cycle challenge, which saw the team cycle from Shigatse to Everest Base Camp to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
