London - Paris 2012

  • About

The London-Paris is now known as “The professional cycling event for amateur cyclists”.

With 350 riders, it is the closest the amateur rider can get to the Tour de France experience and it attracts many ex-professional cyclists and sports people.

In June last year, Geoff Thomas, Mark Bright and Lee Dixon, aka the Wendy Ballers, cycled the London-Paris 2011, a unique, multi-stage "Tour de France" style endurance ride over three days in support of the Geoff's work to help beat blood cancer. They were joined by a team of 10 cyclists from Brewin Dolphin who supported us for the first time this year.

The team cycled a 520km route, from Hampton Court to The Eiffel Tower.  In Paris, the emotional finish saw 'Team GT' cycle along the Champs Elyesees and throught the Arc de Triomphe.

  • Details

The London-Paris is recognised as one of the world’s most exciting cycling events open to the public and is the closest the amateur rider can get to the Tour de France experience.

The 2012 edition will be celebrating 25 years since Stephen Roche won the Tour de France in 1987 - one of the greatest feats ever - winning the Giro, The Tour de France and the World Championships in that year.

In 2012 Stephen will be inviting some special legendary guests to join him in this celebration and you too can join us for this once in a life time experience.

The event is distinguished by having motorbike outriders, rolling road closures in France and professional logistical back up along the 520km route, from Hampton Court to The Eiffel Tower.  In Paris, The London-Paris is one of only two cycling events granted road closures in the centre of the French capital - the other is the Tour de France.  The peloton, with its 50 motorbike outriders, rolls along the famous Parisian streets to an emotional finish.

  • Raise money

A great way to boost your fundraising if you're doing a sponsored event is to raise money online.

Setting up an online giving page with JustGiving or Virgin Money Giving is a great way to raise money, enabling people to sponsor you really easily. All you need to do is visit the site, select Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research as your charity and then create your page. You can then personalise it with photos and messages and send the link to everyone you know.

    Use social networking websites

A great way to increase awareness of your event is to add details to your social networking site; be it Facebook, Twitter or MySpace. It's even possible now to link these sites directly to your online giving page, making it even simpler for people to donate. Another way to inspire people, and raise awareness, is to blog about how your preparation is going. If people see the amount of time you're committing, and why you're doing your event, then they'll be more likely to dig deep!

    Email your family and friends

Target your most generous supporters first. People tend to match the amounts already listed on the page.

    Be persistent

Try re-sending the link to your page one week before the event to get some last minute sponsors. Then send it one more time once you've done the event - it's never too late!

    Raise money while you shop

If you shop online, you can raise money for us simply by signing up with easyfundraising. Visit your favourite online retailers through this site and they will donate a percentage of your purchase to us at no extra cost to you!
